Sabo Guerra and Jelani Felix netted two goals each to lead Sam Boucaud to a comfortable 6-2 triumph over Gasparillo and with it, the $10,000 title in the Santa Cruz Touring Team Community Football Tournament, “Bring Back The Love” at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground in Sam Boucaud, Santa Cruz, on Sunday.
The pair of Jevon Russel and Glen Rollinson added a goal each for Sam Boucaud who completed their six-match campaign with 16 points, three ahead of Pipiol United, while Gasparillo, one of three teams to end with seven points, got its goals from Lindell Sween and Jesse Joseph.
Pipiol, who collected $5,000 for the second spot, had to settle for a draw in their final match, 2-2 with Down D River, with Tyrese Bailey’s brace being cancelled out by strikes for the latter by Chike Sullivan, and Kadeem Jackie.
La Pastora, who won by default from Lower Santa Cruz on Wednesday, secured the third spot and added $2,500 to their coffers.
Attention will now shift to the knockout competition with two matches carded for Thursday, September 15 in the quarterfinals, with Pipiol United meeting Lower Santa Cruz from 4.30 pm, followed by La Pastora and Back Street, two hours later, then on Friday, from 6 pm, in the lone match, Down D River meets Gasparillo from 6 pm ahead of the semifinals and finals on Sunday, and Wednesday, respectively.
This will be followed by the Big Four semifinals on Friday, September 23, and the third-placed playoff and final, a day later.
The tournament sponsors include Monteco Creations Ltd, Guillen Realty, and Massy Motors.
