West Indies One Day International and T20 head coach Daren Sammy will take over as Test coach at the end of the current World Test Championship cycle.
Sammy, who had his white ball contract extended, will also have the Test responsibilities added to his plate.
In announcing the appointment during the CWI's quarterly press conference in St Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday, Director of Cricket for Cricket West Indies, Miles Bascombe, praised Sammy’s tenure since taking over.
“We have been quite impressed by the way he has chartered the course for our white ball teams,” Bascombe said. “He has guided them towards consistency of performance and that is exactly what we want to see.”
Andre Coley’s last assignment will be West Indies' two-match Test series against Pakistan in January.
During Coley’s tenure as West Indies Test coach since his appointment in December 2022, the regional team beat Zimbabwe two-nil in 2023, while drawing with Australia and Bangladesh (both 1-1) in 2024.
West Indies lost series against India (1-0) in 2023, England (3-0) in 2024 and South Africa (2-0 twice), in 2023 and 2024.
