Santa Cruz Sports and Savannah Boys beat Barataria Ball Players and Glenora Sports Club respectively at the Diego Martin Regional Sports Complex on Thursday, to earn the right to play in the North Zone T20 Festival final set for Friday night (Aug 2).
Tion Webster was too good for Barataria in the first semi-final which was reduced to 18 overs because of rain.
The Queen’s Park man lost opening partner Kashma Mitchell for one with the score on 24 for one. Captain Darren Bravo then joined him and together they put on 123 for the second wicket.
Webster hit five sixes and ten fours for his top score of 92, using up 45 balls in the process.
Bravo then stayed till the end, finishing on an unbeaten 67, with three sixes and five fours.
Santa Cruz posted an imposing 201 for three from 18 overs.
Kevis John (1-29), Derron Wilson (1-31) and Cark Vialva (1-37) were the successful bowlers for Ball Players.
The Sam Boucaud-based team who will be playing the lower division of the North Zone next season, then built early pressure on Barataria by taking three wickets for three runs within the first three overs.
Kevis John (0), Randy French (0) and Camillo Carimbocas (0) were all back in the pavilion leaving Dejourn Charles with a monumental task ahead of him.
Charles played himself to 19 with two sixes and a four from 13 balls, but he gave way to Chadeon Raymond at long-on as the Sixth Avenue-based team was precariously placed as 38 for five.
It was only a matter of time before the Darren Bravo-captained team completed the 130-run win as Ball Players capitulated to 71 all out in 13.4 overs.
It was an equally commanding win for the unbeaten Savannah Boys over last year’s beaten finalists, Glenora Sports.
Glenora were sent to bat and found themselves 34 for four with top batters, captain Kenroy Williams (5), Keon Mason (2), Leonardo Julien (18) and Kristoff St John (2) all back in the dugout inside sight overs.
Queen’s Park’s Mikkel Govia scored 35 with five fours and a six, but going for another maximum was caught at deep mid-wicket with the Queen’s Park Savannah-based team at 75 for 5.
Careless batting resulted in Glenora being bowled out for 106 in 19.1 overs.
Savannah Boys lost Mark Sankar early for 2 but the partnership of guest players Navin Bidaisse (31 not out) and Isaiah Rajah (47) produced a partnership of 77 runs.
That laid the foundation for a seven-wicket win with the successful chase of 107 for three in 16.5 overs.
Ball Players played Savannah Boys last evening at the Diego Martin Regional Sports Complex.
