KOSICE – Jordan Scott obliterated the long jump record at the JBL Jump Fest on his way to producing his second straight gold medal performance in Slovakia on Wednesday.
Fresh from his personal best jump of 17.66 metres two weeks ago in Puerto Rico, the 28-year-old leapt 17.44m to win the Elite men’s World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event.
In doing so, Scott, the World Athletics Indoor silver medallist, smashed the meet record of 17.20m set in 2023 by Italy’s Andy Garcia.
Lazaro Martinez of Cuba was second with an effort measured at 16.82m, while Jamaica’s World Under-20 record holder Jaydon Hibbert, competing for the first time since the 2024 Olympics due to injury, placed a commendable third (16.69m).
In the women’s equivalent, Jamaican Akelia Smith was third in the Elite Women’s long jump with 6.50m, just ahead of compatriot Nia Robinson, who leapt 6.39m.
The event was won by American Monae Nichols (6.69m) with France’s Hilary Kpatcha second with 6.53m.
