The Clarke Road United pair of Dejourn Charles and Joshua James, together with Powergen’s Jon-Russ Jagessar, powered Soca Kings to a convincing eight-wicket win over Leatherback Strikers in the Dream XI Trinidad T10 Blast at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando, Friday.
First up was Jaggesar, who starred with the ball in hand. The wiley Powergen spinner had the magical figures of three wickets for three runs from his two overs as the Strikers were restricted to 75 for 3 in ten overs.
Only Ewart Nicholson provided resistance with an unbeaten 36 from 27 balls. The Powergen batsman hit two fours and two sixes in his knock. Vishan Jagessar helped with an unbeaten 18.
Jaggesar got the wickets of Suraj Seepaul (1), caught by Akeel Mohammed at five for 1. Damion Joachim (15) at 20 for two and Kevin Ramasray for a duck to leave the Strikers reeling at 20 for three in four overs.
Set 74 to win, Soca Kings were stunned and lost Trevon James and Shatrughan Rambaran (both ducks) with the first two balls of the innings.
Then, the Clarke Road Tobagonian pair of Charles and James slammed an unbeaten 77-run partnership to guide the Soca Kings home.
Charles hit three sixes and two fours in his 33 not out and James struck four sixes and three fours in his 41 not out as the Soca Kings romped to 77 for two in 5.4 overs to seal the eight-wicket win.
