When the fifth nomination closed on Wednesday for the prestigious Stewards Cup event, a total of $17,250.00 was collected.
To date, none of the ten contenders have pulled out which means that punters and fans alike can expect a very interesting and competitive event.
The speedy filly C’est La Vie will attack the Sprint Championship for the first time. We have seen upsets in this race before and maybe, we can have one this year.
However, the impressive 2023 Derby winner In The Headlines, who has also won this year’s “Triple Crown, event will put her five-race unbeaten record on the line, when she takes on nine rivals in the Sprint Championship of the Southern Caribbean - the Stewards Cup which will be contested 1,200 metres on December 2 at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.
When the nominations were taken, it was clear that we will have a first-time winner as the 2022 winner General JN was been retired from racing by his owner Jerry Narace.
The Ladies Stable-owned filly, In The Headlines, will prove very difficult to beat in this event as she will be receiving weight from every rival. Though she has not been seen at the gallops for a while the champion filly has been swimming and will prove difficult to get by.
However, the 2022 Stewards Cup runner-up Top of The Game has been preparing for this race and is expected to go close. He has been winning friends at the gallops and must enter calculations. Last Sunday, he raced over 800 meters in 49 seconds. He is ready to take on the John O’Brien camp.
Champion trainer O’Brien will send out five nominated horses in the likes of Crown Prince, In The Headlines, Soca Harmony, Princess Aruna, and Super Bird for this event.
Another former champion trainer Glenn Mendez will send out his speedball Marvel Vigor to challenge for honours in the prestigious event.
The other horses nominated for this event are C’est La Vie (owner Dale Kalloo), Just Exhale (owner Lance Warner), and Making Headlines, who is owned by Ramesh Ramlal.
