National men’s volleyballer, Daynte Stewart recorded a joint team-high 14 kills as Indiana Technical completed the season sweep of #15 Goshen 3-1 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) at Schaeffer Centre, Fort Wayne, Indiana on Friday night.
The Warriors won 25-15, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 to improve to 11-2 overall on the season and 7-1 in the WHAC to be level with Lourdes, both with .875 winning percentage.
However, Lourdes in 9-1 overall while both teams are 6-0 at home.
The Warriors started out strong with a 6-0 lead in the first set.
After only allowing Goshen four points, Tech went on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 11-4.
Goshen was able to get our more points, two at a time to get within four (12-8) until the Warriors scored three in a row to lead 15-8.
Later Maro Capo had two service aces in a row to give Tech their largest lead of the set 20-10. The two teams traded points until the Warriors reached 25 to win the first set 25-15.
Tech started the second set with a 3-0 lead until Goshen rallied for a four-point run to take a 5-4 lead. The set was then tied three times before Goshen had a 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead.
The Warriors responded with a kill by Chase Christiansen and another by Stewart to get back within two (11-9).
The two teams started the back-and-forth action again with neither team able to score more than two points in a row. Goshen led 19-13 when the Warriors had a 3-0 run to get within three (19-16). Tech tried to claw their way back into the lead but was unable to before Goshen reached 25 and won the second set 25-21.
The trading of points began immediately in the third set with the set being tied five times before Goshen scored three-straight to lead 8-6. Tech responded with a 4-0 run to take a 10-8 lead only for Goshen to tie the set again at 10-10. The set was tied seven more times until the Warriors rallied with a 5-0 run to take their largest lead of this set 22-18. Tech was able to hold off a comeback by Goshen and won the third set 25-22 to go up 2-1 in the match.
The fourth set was tied three times before the Warriors had a 5-0 run to take an 8-3 lead. The two teams began trading points with neither being able to score more than two consecutively. Goshen got within two (11-9) before Tech had a 3-0 run to take a 14-9 lead. Later Goshen rallied for a 4-0 run to tie the set 16-16, only for the set to then be tied four more times.
Tech had a 4-0 run to make it match point (24-21) and only allowed Goshen one more point before they took the fourth set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
Both Stewart and Mason Milan had 14 kills for the winners while the latter also had nine digs.
Raekwon Rogers added six kills while Brandon Jones led with 43 assists, five kills and five digs, and Joey Hermes got 23 digs to lead the Warriors.
Stewart and Tech were scheduled back on the court Saturday, when they hosted Maranatha Baptist.
