T&T jockeys Brian Boodramsingh, Kimal Santo, Kerron Khelawan and Learie Seecharan combined to land six wins over the big weekend at Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Boodramsingh had two winners, Khelawan two winners, and Santo and Seecharan each scored once.
Former champion jockey Boodramsingh captured the biggest prize on Saturday when he guided the 12-1 shot Wealthy Texan to 2 3/4 length success in the 6 1/2 furlongs contest. The 12-1 shot made all the running for a superb victory in the CAN $100,000 Jack Diamond Futurity.
That day in the second race, Khelawan was the first to enter the winner's enclosure after he guided Majestic Street to victory for trainer Patty Leaney who had a wonderful weekend. Boodramsingh finished third aboard Driller and paid $6.90 to show. That was to be a warm-up for Boodramsingh. In the third event, the 23-year-old rider continued his good form and finished second aboard Eddie Girls. The payment was good on the 16 -1 shot and she paid $7.10 to place and $2.60 to show. Boodramsingh continued his good form in the fourth aboard Bodega and finished second in the fourth race.
However, in race six, the Jack Diamond Futurity, Boodramsingh landed the winner aboard Wealthy Texan for trainer Mel Snow. He paid $27.00 to win, $8:30 to place and $5.40 to show.
In the eighth race, Santo was in the winner's enclosure as he brought Accidental Hero with a sustained run to win going away for trainer Larry Grieve and owners Wyn Racing Stables. Third place was taken by Boodramsingh who was aboard Space.
In the ninth event, Santo was again in the frame but on this occasion, he was third aboard Wise Market.
The following day, Santo set out to win the opening event aboard Indyetta but he was reeled in with three furlongs to go my by Lucky Force with leading rider Amadeo Perez aboard.
The second event on Sunday saw Khelawan land another winner, this time for trainer Tara Neigel. Khelawan was astride which won comfortably for owners Feedon Farms Ltd. That made it four wins for the Trinidad riders.
In the next race, Pretty Aria made it five wins as Boodramsingh guided the Robert Overschott-trained horse to victory for the Ironside Stable Limited. However, in the fifth race on the seven-race card, Seecharan finally put his mark on the card, after a quiet weekend.
Seecharan's 21-1 shot Star Finality scorched up the straight to win easily by 4 1/2 lengths for trainer Patty Leaney and owner Joe and Gloria Russo. Seecharan saved the best for last. In the final event on the card, Boodramsingh finished second ending a great weekend for the Caribbean and Trinidad jockeys.
When Guardian Media spoke to Santo, he said, "I am riding well and I thank trainer Larry Grieve for giving me the opportunity to ride Accidental Hero. I am happy to land another winner for the season. Yes, I am happy and certain that I will ride many more winners. When I asked for more Accidental Hero quickened away in style."
Former champion jockey Boodramsingh won the richest race on Saturday aboard Wealthy Texan and said: "He broke smartly and made all the running. When I came to to top of the lane, he was well in command and came home strongly."
The local riders are looking to keep the T&T flag flying in Canada.
