Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed on Saturday that the final members of the West Indies Men’s T20 World Cup squad have arrived home safely, bringing an end to a logistically challenging week in India.
The return journey for the players and Team Management Unit (TMU) became a point of concern following the T20 World Cup after a series of cancellations disrupted the chartered flights originally coordinated by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
While the initial plan for a collective exit from India faltered, CWI officials worked through the week to secure alternative commercial travel. The board announced that the staggered return process concluded over the last several days as the final group of players reached their respective home destinations.
"The well-being and safety of our players and staff remain paramount," CWI stated in an official release. "We are grateful that the matter has now been brought to a safe and satisfactory conclusion."
The safe return of the "Men in Maroon" was a collaborative effort involving several key partners. CWI extended its gratitude to the ICC for its coordination despite the initial setbacks, as well as to regional cricket boards and various stakeholders who assisted in facilitating the complex travel arrangements on short notice.
The board also acknowledged the outpouring of support from the Caribbean public and the global cricketing community, who had expressed concern over the squad's delay and well-wishes.
