West Side Stars (women), and Zenith ‘A’ men) captured their respective divisional titles when the The Volleyball Development Academy (TVDA) third annual Russell McKend Volleyball Development (Under-23) Tournament concluded on Sunday.
The tournament which served off with 14 teams on Tuesday, February 23 ended at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sporting Arena, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua with all cash prizes sponsored by the National Lotteries Control Board.
In the Under-23 women’s decider wich was contested via the first to 25 points per set format, host club West Side Stars battled past BIG SEPoS 25-24, 23-25, 25-22.
Earlier on in the day in the first to 21 points semifinals, West Side Stars brushed aside Zenith Volleyball School 21-13, 21-6 and BIG SEPoS outclassed Glamorgan 21-9, 21-7.
And in the bronze medal match, Glamorgan had much better fortune and overcame Zenith 19-21, 21-13, 21-13.
The men’s Under-23 final was an all Zenith affair, with Zenith ‘A’ getting the better of Zenith ‘B’ 25-19, 25-21.
When the semifinals took place earlier in the day, Zenith ‘A’ defeated BIG SEPoS 21-15, 21-17 and Zenith ‘B’ rallied past Glamorgan 21-20, 15-21, 15-13.
Glamorgan completed the sweep of the bronze medals beating SEPoS 21-8, 21-19 in the playoff.
