Tariq Woods claimed the overall win when the St Christopher’s Anglican Church held its Cycle Road Race on Sunday in Siparia.
Woods, in September, pedalled to victory in the Elite and Under-23 men’s division of the TT Cycling Federation’s Road Challenge No 5 Criterium event at Tamana In-Tek Park, and on Sunday he produced similar form to seal the top spot in the elite category representing the Evolution Cycling Academy.
Though challenged by a tough field of riders, Woods dug deep to get the better of second-place Liam Trepte of Team Raiders Cycle and Multisport, with Maurice Burnett claiming the third-place finish in the division. Later, he was also named the overall winner, as he pipped Trepte for the title.
Trepte, considered the country’s rising road race and long-distance talent, has won several key events including the cycling federation’s 2024 Road Cycling Challenge Series Elite 80k event earlier this year in a time of one hour and 37 minutes.
