So­ca star Shur­wayne Win­ches­ter is prov­ing time and time again that he is a force to be reck­oned with when it comes to per­form­ing and en­ter­tain­ing a crowd. The two-time Road March champ had pa­trons jump­ing, wav­ing and some even mis­be­hav­ing to a string of his hits at the pic­turesque Bois Cano Bistro and Bar, Kapok Ho­tel, in Mar­aval, on Sat­ur­day night.

The spa­cious open-air gar­den-style restau­rant cre­at­ed the per­fect am­bi­ence for the kick start of the restau­rant's newest en­ter­tain­ment event–Bois Cano Live!–a se­ries of mi­ni con­certs to be held at the venue. The con­cert, dubbed Look de Band Com­ing, was well at­tend­ed and pa­trons had their palates well sat­is­fied with the restau­rant's sig­na­ture cut­ters and cock­tails and a com­pli­men­ta­ry glass of wine. Tak­ing the stage at ap­prox­i­mate­ly 9.05, Win­ches­ter and his band You got right in­to it, de­liv­er­ing songs such as, I Wan­na Make Love, Don't Stop and Car­ni­val Please Stay. The artiste fol­lowed with some of his oth­er tracks in­clud­ing, Dead or Alive, Make It Yours, (fea­tur­ing reg­gae star Maxi Priest), Can't Wait and Get Out Of My Dreams, the tune that made Win­ches­ter a house­hold name.

Show­ing off his ver­sa­til­i­ty, Win­ches­ter then belt­ed out some oldies too, much to the de­light of the pumped-up crowd. His choic­es of Mar­vin Gaye's Mer­cy, Mer­cy Me, Bill Ha­ley's Rock Around The Clock and Black Stal­in's Black Man Feel­ing To Par­ty, cer­tain­ly got the nod of ap­proval from the pa­trons. At this point, some en­thu­si­as­tic fans, who could no longer re­sist the urge to re­main sit­ting, flocked to the front of the stage to let loose and show off their dance moves. Win­ches­ter's trib­ute to the late great King of Pop, Michael Jack­son, added a spe­cial touch to his per­for­mance and the au­di­ence sang along, word for word, to MJ's hits, in­clud­ing, Got To Be Startin' Sumtin' and Will You Be There, just to name a few. Win­ches­ter's de­par­ture from the stage at 10 pm was met with chants of "We want more!" and "Don't stop till you get enough." The singer oblig­ed and re­turned on stage to thrill the au­di­ence for a few min­utes more, de­liv­er­ing his smash, Open D Gate. Spe­cial men­tion must be made of tal­ent­ed pan­nist Dar­ryl Reid, who ear­li­er in the evening gave a com­mend­able per­for­mance and set the tone for what was to come.

Colleen Cameron, mar­ket­ing co-or­di­na­tor at Kapok Ho­tel, said Win­ches­ter was cho­sen to kick off the mi­ni con­certs at the Caribbean-themed restau­rant be­cause he meshed well with its mel­low and root­sy vibes. Cameron said, "This show was for us to gauge the re­sponse of the con­cert... and it was great.

"It was a suc­cess. We're hop­ing to make it a month­ly event. We in­tend to pick artistes who will com­ple­ment the restau­rant and pro­vide great en­ter­tain­ment to our guests."
