Tourism Ministry sponsors children's Carnival band

As part of its phil­an­thropic pro­gramme, the Min­istry of Tourism is spon­sor­ing the Spe­cial Chil­dren Car­ni­val Band from the La­dy Ho­choy Vo­ca­tion­al Cen­tre–D Kanan­ka Maoli Tribe...Hawaii 2010.

The La­dy Ho­choy Vo­ca­tion­al Cen­tre pro­vides much-need­ed qual­i­ty care and ser­vice for in­di­vid­u­als who have phys­i­cal and men­tal dis­abil­i­ties.

In an­nounc­ing the spon­sor­ship of the mas pre­sen­ta­tion, Tourism Min­is­ter Joseph Ross in­di­cat­ed his great joy "to af­ford the chil­dren the op­por­tu­ni­ty to tru­ly en­joy Car­ni­val, our ma­jor na­tion­al fes­ti­val." He said: "What is re­al­ly as­ton­ish­ing is that all the cos­tumes are made by the chil­dren them­selves, thus fa­cil­i­tat­ing the learn­ing of new skills, such as wire-bend­ing, art and craft, and cop­per plat­ing."

Min­is­ter Ross ex­pressed great re­spect for the ex­cel­lent work done at the cen­tre and said he tru­ly ap­pre­ci­at­ed the ded­i­ca­tion of the teach­ers and sup­port staff. Last year, the La­dy Ho­choy Vo­ca­tion­al Cen­tre placed sec­ond in the NC­BA Mi­ni School Band Mas Cat­e­go­ry and the cen­tre's King and Queen of the Band copped sev­er­al spe­cial prizes.

Opened in 1994, the La­dy Ho­choy Vo­ca­tion­al Cen­tre pro­vides care and ser­vice for in­di­vid­u­als who pos­sess vary­ing lev­els of men­tal, learn­ing and phys­i­cal dis­abil­i­ties. The cen­tre al­so teach­es life skills, art and craft, wood­work­ing and cook­ing skills to those with spe­cial needs, in its dri­ve to en­able them to achieve their full po­ten­tial for in­te­gra­tion in­to the main­stream of a well-in­formed so­ci­ety.
