National cylcists Elisha Greene and the Alexander brothers, Joshua and Adam are expected to heat up the track when the Southampton Wheelers 'Barracuda Track League' pedals off under lights at Skinner Park, San Fernando from 7pm, tonight. Wheelers have been hosting the popular four-stage Tour of San Fernando for several years and this weekend's programme which ends tomorrow from 6pm, is expected to provide a high level of competition and excitement.
Other local riders listed to grace the concrete tracks at Skinner Park includes inform Rudy Ashton, Sheldon Ranjit, Jovian Gomez, Mark Codrington and Varun Maharaj in Match Sprint, Kerin and Individual Pursuits races while BMX events will be on offer for kids. The cyclists would be keen on sharpening their form for the upcoming Southern Games, Easter Grand Prix and Beacon Insurance series.
The Federation is also using the two days to help select teams for the Southern Games and the Easter International Grand Prix and as such the races are being managed on a 'league points' basis, with the winners earning points. The two-night meeting is being held in recognition of Hilton 'Barracuda' Mitchell who rode for the Wheelers club in 1958 at Southern Games.
