Guayagua­yare RC con­tin­ued its win­ning trend, as­sert­ing its dom­i­nance at the 2010 Ma­yaro Pri­ma­ry Schools Zon­al Ath­let­ic Games where it emerged vic­to­ri­ous for the third straight year when the fi­nals were held at the bpTT Ma­yaro Re­source Cen­tre last week. Led by stel­lar per­for­mances from Mak­we­si Du­jon, Maria La Fou­cade, Ak­i­lah Ha­gley and Pe­ter Wil­son, who took home in­di­vid­ual ti­tles in four of the eight age group cat­e­gories, Guayagua­yare took cham­pi­onship ho­n­ours as the out­stand­ing school in the zon­al com­pe­ti­tion.

Guayagua­yare faced stiff com­pe­ti­tion from the oth­er com­pet­ing schools with the ath­letes of Ma­yaro RC, Ma­yaro Gov­ern­ment, Mafek­ing Gov­ern­ment and Or­toire RC, rep­re­sent­ing their schools cred­itably in the var­i­ous track and field events. Zon­al Co­or­di­na­tor, Cather­ine Perez, who is al­so the prin­ci­pal of Or­toire RC, was pleased with the out­come of the event and the ster­ling per­for­mances by the ath­letes from all the schools.

She thanked en­er­gy com­pa­ny bpTT for their spon­sor­ship of the Games for the past decade and looked for­ward to their con­tin­ued sup­port in de­vel­op­ing the enor­mous ath­let­ic po­ten­tial in Ma­yaro. The Games were of­fi­cial­ly opened by Ren­nie Strak­er, Com­mu­ni­ty Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer, bpTT, who stat­ed that the com­pa­ny was proud to part­ner with the com­mit­tee to pro­vide a plat­form for de­vel­op­ing the tremen­dous ath­let­ic tal­ent of the youths of Ma­yaro.

Strak­er pledged the com­pa­ny's com­mit­ment to con­tin­ue sup­port­ing the event and ath­letes in the com­mu­ni­ty. "I want you all to know that next year bpTT will make the ex­pe­ri­ence even more re­ward­ing and ex­cit­ing for the chil­dren who par­tic­i­pate in these zon­al games," he said. Re­splen­dent in their red and white uni­forms, mem­bers of Mafek­ing Gov­ern­ment were crowned March Past cham­pi­ons, with Or­toire RC com­ing in sec­ond.
