Jovian Gomez improved his chances of becoming the new Road King of T&T when he pedalled to victory in the National Cycling Championships Seniors' 25-Laps Road circuit ride around King George V Park on Sunday. After failing to secure a top 15 finish in Saturday's 40km Individual Time Trial at Wallerfield, Gomez of Madonna Wheeler's won ahead of Team Trek's Gevan Samuel and the Sonics duo of Barry Luces and Marc Codrington.

The overall (Track and Road) title has been won for the last two years by Colin Wilson. With only Sunday's event left, the trio of veteran Gene Samuel, Christopher Sellier and Adam Alexander were atop the leader board. Among the juniors, 15-year-old Sonic's pedallists' Rudy Ashton turned the tables on his main rival and reigning age-group champion, 19-year-old Varun Maharaj of Madonna Wheelers to secure victory in their 20-Laps event.

Third was Keiron Bramble of Sonics while Jonathan Paul of Rafman Mecalfab, was fourth. The other winners on Sunday included Justin Roberts (juveniles), Aurelia Constantine (women), Akil Campbell (tinymites), Roger Smart (veterans 40+), Stephen Aboud (veterans 50+) and Peter Hernandez (veterans 60+). The third and final leg comes off next Sunday (September 5) with a Road Race starting at La Romaine at 7am.
