Po­lice ar­rest­ed three Barataria men yes­ter­day af­ter they re­cov­ered a Mac-11 sub-com­pact ma­chine gun at a house in Barataria.The weapon, po­lice said, was ca­pa­ble of fir­ing 200 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion a minute.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, at about 6.30 am mem­bers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, in­clud­ing Sgt Cor­nelius Samuel and Cpl Ker­win Mar­tin, went to the house at Saw Mill Av­enue and searched it.Apart from the weapon, the po­lice al­so found au­then­tic cam­ou­flage uni­forms be­long­ing to the T&T De­fence Force.

The three men were ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Mor­vant Po­lice Sta­tion where they are ex­pect­ed to be in­ter­viewed by de­tec­tives for a se­ries of firearm-re­lat­ed of­fences in the Mor­vant and Barataria ar­eas.

Just a week-and-a-half ago, po­lice from the same unit con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise in the same area and re­cov­ered an AK-47 as­sault ri­fle.A 32-year-old man was ar­rest­ed in that in­ci­dent. (Rhon­dor Dowlat)
