Works and Infrustructure Minister Jack Warner will appeal to the Privy Council challenging a decision of the local Court of Appeal in a multi-million-dollar lawsuit brought against him by a former United National Congress (UNC) financier. Appellate judges, Wendell Kangaloo, Humphrey Stollmeyer and Gregory Smith, yesterday granted Warner's attorneys leave to appeal the decision of three other appellate judges last December. On December 20 last year, Justices of Appeal, Peter Jamadar, Nolan Bereaux and Alice Yorke-Soo Hon, held that Justice Devendra Rampersad's decision to strike out the claim brought by Krishna Lalla and his company Real Time Systems Ltd was wrong. The lawsuit sought to recover a multi-million-dollar "loan" made to the United National Congress' chairman before an election campaign in 2007. The lawsuit listed Warner, trading as Dr Joao Havelenge Centre of Excellence, Renraw Investments and CCAM and Co as respondents. According to the lawsuit, the loan amounted to $13,531,095, with a 12 per cent interest accrual, which brought the repayment figure to $28.1 million.
