Haiti blanks T&T U-20s 2-0

T&T Un­der-20 So­ca War­riors will go in­to their fi­nal Group A Caribbean Foot­ball Union Un­der-20 Cham­pi­onship fi­nal round match against win­less Cu­ra­cao to­mor­row from 4 pm (TT time), need­ing a win to stay in con­tention for a Con­ca­caf fi­nal round spot af­ter go­ing un­der to Haiti, 2-0 at the Wa­ter­house Sta­di­um, Kingston, yes­ter­day.

The Ross Rus­sell-coached young So­ca War­riors who downed Puer­to Ri­co 2-0 in their open­er on Mon­day went in­to the match ahead of the Haitians on goal-dif­fer­ence af­ter the lat­ter's 2-1 win over Cu­ra­cao.

How­ev­er, Haiti got a goal in each half from Luck­n­er Ho­r­at (31st) and Samuel Pom­pee (48th penal­ty) to go the top of the four-team group with max­i­mum six points while T&T stayed sec­ond lev­el on three points with Puer­to Ri­co which re­bound­ed to edge point­less Cu­ra­cao, 2-1 in the day's open­er.

On Tues­day, Ja­maica and Cu­ba both won their Group B open­ers at the An­tho­ny Spauld­ing Sports Com­plex, Kingston.

The Ja­maicans got a 42nd minute goal from Os­hana Boothe to edge An­tigua and Bar­bu­da 1-0 with the lat­ter end­ing the match with ten men af­ter Jamoy Stevens was shown a sec­ond yel­low card by Puer­to Ri­can ref­er­ee Javier San­tos in the 84th minute, 30 min­utes af­ter his first cau­tion.

The Cubans saw off the chal­lenge of Suri­name 2-1 with Arichel Her­nan­dez Mo­ra scor­ing both items for the win­ners in the 24th and 45th min­utes, while Suri­name's con­so­la­tion was net­ted by Miquel Dan­ny Dar­son in the 46th pri­or to his team-mate Sergino Ed­uard be­ing sent off in the 75th minute for a sec­ond cau­tion by Ba­hami­an ref­er­ee Wil­son Da Cos­ta.

To­day, Group B con­tin­ues with An­tigua & Bar­bu­da fac­ing Cu­ba fol­lowed by Ja­maica against Suri­name.

At the end of the two round-robin groups, the top two teams in each group as well as the best third-place team will qual­i­fy for the 12-team Con­ca­caf Fi­nals Feb­ru­ary 18 to March 2 in Puebla, Mex­i­co.
