On June 12 at the Lloyd Best Institute of The Caribbean in Tunapuna, the 24th solo exhibition by artist Keith Ward, Tints Tones and Textures, opened to the public.
On display are 35 recent works that explore a variety of subject matter moving comfortably from figurative expressions, impressionistic landscapes and abstract imagery.
Ward, who teaches art, design, drawing and painting at The University of the West Indies Open Campus, said, “A picture paints a thousand words. Art exemplifies that narrative on several levels, and I captivate compositions, vibrant and intuitive use of colour, emotive titles and textured surfaces, unifying all and breathing life and meaning to my canvases. It’s symbolic and unique to me.”
The poet and creativity coach, who held his first solo exhibition in 1989, moves comfortably between mediums and subject matter.
His artwork is distinct and radiates with vibrancy and strong animated line quality.
His Caribbean themes frequently address elements of movement and light whilst projecting a celebration of life and positivity of the human spirit.
A self-taught artist, Ward has expanded his creative pursuits to drama, composing and singing calypsoes, filmmaking and set design. He has written two books of poems, Reflections and Moments of Indecision.
He is the founder of Arts for Development, Expression and Therapy, and conducts art therapy, team building and creativity workshops.
Ward’s artwork can be found in many private and corporate collections throughout T&T as well as Europe, North America and Africa.
The exhibition will be open daily until June 22.
