For decades, the Caribbean’s eco­nom­ic iden­ti­ty has been an­chored in the “sun, sea and sand” mod­el of tourism. While this tra­di­tion­al sec­tor re­mains a vi­tal pil­lar, the glob­al land­scape is shift­ing to­ward niche mar­kets that of­fer more sus­tain­able, long-term eco­nom­ic growth. One such fron­tier is ed­u­ca­tion­al tourism (edu­tourism), a mul­ti-bil­lion-dol­lar in­dus­try that trans­forms a na­tion’s ge­o­graph­ic and aca­d­e­m­ic in­fra­struc­ture in­to a hub for glob­al learn­ing. As na­tions like T&T seek to di­ver­si­fy their economies and re­duce de­pen­dence on volatile en­er­gy mar­kets, edu­tourism of­fers a unique op­por­tu­ni­ty to cap­i­talise on ex­ist­ing as­sets to fos­ter high-val­ue, long-stay tourism.
