ANSA Merchant Bank has reported profit attributable to shareholders of $98.68 million for the six-months ended June 30, 2026, a 20 per cent increase compared to the $82.19 million it earned for the same period in 2025.
ANSA Merchant Bank chairman Norman Sabga explained the Bank delivered profit before tax of $123.6 million, 31.66 per cent or $29.72 million above the $93.9 million earned in the same period last year.
The merchant bank chairman said the consolidated net operating income grew by 11 per cent to $317.9 million, while total expenses rose by only 1 per cent to $194.3 million. The company’s consolidated total assets closed at $10.32 billion, 1.3 per cent above the position at 31 December 2025.
Sabga explained, “Our first-quarter result was impacted by unrealised fair value losses in the Tatil Life investment portfolio, arising from volatility in international investment markets, much of which reversed during the second quarter. The half year outcome therefore reflects that recovery and genuine underlying progress in our operating businesses. Consolidated earnings per share for the six months ended 30 June 2026 was $1.15, 20 per cent above the $0.96 reported for the same period in 2025.”
He stated the banking and wealth management segment reported profit before tax of $57.1 million, compared with $18.6 million in the same period last year.
ANSA Merchant Bank’s insurance services segment reported profit before tax of $99.8 million, an increase of 30 per cent over the prior period.
He added, “Net operating income grew by 32 per cent to $193.2 million however total expenses increased by 7 per cent to $136.2 million, producing the operating leverage that drove this result. Growth in our banks’ interest-earning asset portfolios during 2025 continued into the first half of 2026, and shareholders should note that the prior-period comparative was impacted by the significant investments made in our people, processes and technology infrastructure.”
The report confirmed that total assets in the banking and wealth management segment increased by 1 per cent to $6.55 billion.
Sabga said the company’s consolidated balance sheet remains financially robust with the board continuously reviewing the balance between returns to shareholders and investing in digital and operational improvements.
“Therefore, while the group’s half-year earnings have improved , the board has elected to retain a greater proportion of earnings at this stage to fund the digital and infrastructural investments required to support the next phase of growth and has approached an interim dividend of $0.10 per share,” said Sabga.
ANSA Merchant Bank’s interim dividend will be paid on October 7 to shareholders on the register as at September 23.
