In a strategic move to solidify the future of the nation’s natural gas production, Dr Roodal Moonilal, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries held a meeting with representatives from EOG Resources.
A release from the ministry explained the discussions, which took place at the ministry’s International Waterfront Complex Head Office, focussed on the successful delivery of recent offshore projects and the accelerated timeline for upcoming developments critical to the country’s energy security.
The meeting was centred on two primary pillars: the operational success of the Mento Gas Development and the forward momentum of the Coconut Gas Project.
These projects represent a significant portion of the ongoing collaboration between EOG Resources and bp T&T (bpTT).
Moonilal was briefed on the performance of the Mento Gas Development, which achieved its first gas in May 2025.
This project has since become a vital contributor to the domestic supply, meeting key production targets set during its initial proposal stages.
Furthering the discussion on future capacity, the EOG executive team led by George Vieira, vice-president and general manager, Lisa Gosine-Alleyne, managing counsel and Denesh Ramnarace, external affairs manager—provided a comprehensive update on the Coconut Gas Project.
This joint venture is currently on track to come onstream in 2027.
The project is viewed as a cornerstone of the ministry’s medium-term energy strategy, aimed at offsetting natural decline in older fields and ensuring a steady flow of molecules to the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, the release said.
Moonilal reaffirmed the Government’s intention to maintain a strong and productive partnership with key industry stakeholders and underscored the importance of continued collaboration with EOG Resources to support the sustainable development of T&T’s energy sector for the mutual benefit of all parties.
