The Chair­man of the Na­tion­al Car­ni­val Com­mis­sion (NCC), Win­ston ‘Gyp­sy’ Pe­ters, has said it does not make eco­nom­ic sense to have Car­ni­val in To­ba­go at the same time as Trinidad Car­ni­val.

Car­ni­val cel­e­bra­tions in Ch­agua­nas got off to an en­er­getic start. The launch took place on Sat­ur­day on the Ch­agua­nas Main Road with a cadre of lo­cal artists en­ter­tain­ing the crowd gath­ered in front of the Ch­agua­nas Mar­ket.

The Ch­agua­nas Car­ni­val launch took place on Sat­ur­day on the Ch­agua­nas Main Road with steel­pan, mas­quer­aders, a Dame Lor­raine, sailors, moko jumbies, and spec­ta­tors danc­ing to so­ca and pul­sat­ing chut­ney per­for­mances from Nishard M, Nel Ram­dass, Cli­maxxx, Sexy Shazie.

On the 60th an­niver­sary of Panora­ma, it’s a time for cel­e­bra­tion and re­flec­tion on the steel­pan, the play­ers and their bands, the arrangers, ca­lyp­so­ni­ans and those com­posers from the steel­band move­ment who have cre­at­ed mu­sic in this the great­est steel­band com­pe­ti­tion.

With ca­lyp­so tents now in full swing, a vet­er­an ca­lyp­son­ian is claim­ing her con­tro­ver­sial 2023 com­po­si­tion, Po­lit­i­cal Ceme­tery, is be­ing cen­sored by a ca­lyp­so tent.
