Pirates, phone apps, animated art for AC 2013

by

20131027

Pete Lord knows the life of the pirate very well. He's been hanging out with Pirate Captain and his odd band of sailors. At this year's edition of Animae Caribe, Lord, the co-founder of world famous Academy Award-winning Aardman Animations studio, will introduce T&T to the behind the scenes of animation in developing the crew of Pirate! Band of Misfits! for the screen.

Animae Caribe starts today with the digital media student forum from 9 am at UTT John D Creativity Campus on Wrightson Road. Later that evening, the festival will be officially launched at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad.

Lord will speak on Wednesday at UTT Academy for the Performing Arts, discussing the topic The Future of Stop Motion Animation. He will also present some of his award winning shorts. The movie Pirate! Band of Misfits! will be screened at Digicel IMAX Cinema.

Lord, a visiting professor at the University of the West of England, Bristol, also co-directed the 2002 commercial smash Chicken Run, which starred the voice of Mel Gibson; produced the Oscar-winning Wallace and Grommit, the Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2005.

Also coming for AC 2013 is one

of NBA's finest veterans, Adonal Foyle. Foyle is also scheduled to discuss the progress of his illustrated book into an animated series using talent from right here in the Caribbean.

His presentation is carded for Friday at Hyatt Regency. The retired NBA star, a Vincentian-American who played centre, is taking his illustrated book Too-Tall Foyle to animation format in a possible collaboration with Full Circle Animation Studio and other talents here in Trinidad.

Also on the AC 2013 guest list is Trinidadian Anthony Phills. He has been invited to share his insight on how the mobile application technology can enhance animation projects. Phills, Morvant-born but Montreal-raised, will be hosting a workshop on Phone App Development.

This year's mascot is Redman a cheeky caiman from Caroni. His creation was inspired by the viral YouTube link of the adventures of some residents during a freak tornado in Central Trinidad.

"Well this is my first time in this amination thing, but I looking forward to spreading the word. It takes a lot to get me out of my Caroni Swamp home but I need the work so I will represent Animae Caribe Festival with pride," said the critter.

Tickets for the IMAX viewing of Priates! Band of Misfits! are only available through AC's website animaecaribe.com.

Also, check Animae Caribe's Facebook page for other information.
