The Government will allocate $200 million for the construction of a terminal and associated facilities of the ANR Robinson International Airport in fiscal 2023.
The project, which is being executed by NIDCO, aims to create an international airport with sufficient capacity and level of service to support tourism development and air travel in Tobago.
According to the Public Sector Investment Programme, works will continue with the upgrading of the existing terminal building and the construction of a new terminal building with a car park at Crown Point.
Upgrades will also be done at the Piarco International Airport and the existing airport facility at Crown Point.
In fiscal 2023, the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT) will receive the sum of $31.7 million to continue upgrades in infrastructure and security works which will include the following:
• completion of the runway and taxiway pavement remediation works at the Arthur Napoleon Robinson International Airport (ANRRIA) in Tobago as well as the Piarco International Airport (PIA) in Trinidad for safe aircraft operations;
• continuation of repairs to the perimeter fencing at ANRRIA and PIA for enhanced security;
• upgrading of the CCTV and access control systems at PIA and ANRRIA to meet the security requirements of the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago and national security agencies;
• replacement of airfield signage with 38 LED signs for airplane operations at PIA to comply with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations; and
• procurement of two runway sweepers for the PIA and ANRRIA for the removal of debris on the runways and taxiways for safe aircraft operations on the ground.
Money will also be allocated for the upgrade of sea transportation.
Resources totalling $110.9 million will be allocated to the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago in fiscal 2023 for the execution of development works which will include the following:
• replacement of three foam fenders -phase one for the Port of Port-of-Spain to provide better berthing facility for cargo and passenger vessels;
• acquisition of equipment (including tractor trucks and trailers) for increased operational efficiency at the Port of Port-of-Spain;
• continuation of the repair/paving of the empty container yard to increase cargo handling capacity and efficiency at the Port of Port-of-Spain;
• procurement of one ship-to-shore gantry crane to increase cargo handling capacity and efficiency at the Port of Port-of-Spain; and
• the refurbishment of the CARICOM wharf to increase the reliability of the berthing facilities and reduce mooring and cargo movement risks. Furthermore, the Maritime Services Division of the Ministry of Works and Transport will be provided an allocation of $6.8 million to implement works pertaining to sea vessel traffic safety and management.
The Division will complete the project removal and disposal of wrecks and derelict vessels in the Government Shipping Service Basin in the Port of Spain and Sea Lots areas.
