Rapso collective 3canal kicked off their 2023 Carnival campaign on Friday evening with the first in a series of weekly Backyard Jam sessions at their base, The Big Black Box on Murray Street, Woodbrook.
The Backyard Jam is a tradition as it allows 3canal's fans to get familiar with new music and build excitement for the annual 3canal Carnival show. The Backyard Jam is also a platform for young artistes to perform as opening acts and showcase their music in front of a live audience.
In the past, popular soca artistes like Olatunji and Sekon Sta and Trinibad pioneer Rheon Elbourne have opened the Backyard Jam. Friday's session was a welcome return to the Black Box stage for Elbourne as he appeared alongside the rapso trio of Wendell Manwarren, Roger Roberts and Stanton Kewley for a 2023 collaboration titled, Try Yuh Best.
3canal also debuted collaborations with Gyazette, Dev and The Brothers which were enthusiastically received by the near-capacity audience at the Black Box.
Black, Blessed and Beautiful is 3canal's theme for Carnival 2023. This year, the Carnival show takes place on February 13 at Soundforge, Christopher Samuel Drive, off Mucurapo Road, St James.
More information about upcoming Backyard Jams and the February 13 concert can be found in the coming weeks via 3canal's social media pages.
