A 32-year-old man has been fined $4,000 for growing ten marijuana plants at his San Fernando home.
Stephen Mendies has 28 days to pay the fine or serve four months in prison.
He pleaded guilty via video conference before Senior Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor yesterday. Mendies was at his on Friday when the police went to his Diamond Village home around 2.25 am with a warrant to search for firearms and ammunition.
Prosecutor Sgt Harold Ishmael said the officers did not find anything mentioned on the warrant.
But, PC Latchman Bissoon observed ten plant pots each containing a marijuana plant in the yard.
When the officer inquired about it, he said, “all that is mine plants, I does use for my personal use, officer.”
He was arrested and taken to the San Fernando CID where he was charged by PC Bissoon. (SW)
