A 32-year-old man has been fined $4,000 for grow­ing ten mar­i­jua­na plants at his San Fer­nan­do home.

Stephen Mendies has 28 days to pay the fine or serve four months in prison.

He plead­ed guilty via video con­fer­ence be­fore Se­nior Mag­is­trate Jo-Anne Con­nor yes­ter­day. Mendies was at his on Fri­day when the po­lice went to his Di­a­mond Vil­lage home around 2.25 am with a war­rant to search for firearms and am­mu­ni­tion.

Pros­e­cu­tor Sgt Harold Ish­mael said the of­fi­cers did not find any­thing men­tioned on the war­rant.

But, PC Latch­man Bis­soon ob­served ten plant pots each con­tain­ing a mar­i­jua­na plant in the yard.

When the of­fi­cer in­quired about it, he said, “all that is mine plants, I does use for my per­son­al use, of­fi­cer.”

He was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do CID where he was charged by PC Bis­soon. (SW)
