The sod has been turned for a new TT$43M li­brary in La Hor­quet­ta.

Ear­li­er to­day Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter – Com­mu­ni­ca­tions, Symon de No­bri­ga and Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for La Hor­quet­ta/Tal­paro, Fos­ter Cum­mings turned the sod for the con­struc­tion of the new La Hor­quet­ta Pub­lic Li­brary at Slinger Fran­cis­co Boule­vard, Phase 5, La Hor­quet­ta.

The new li­brary will cost ap­prox­i­mate­ly TT$43 mil­lion and is sched­uled to be com­plet­ed with­in 18 months.

The li­brary will be a three-sto­ry struc­ture fea­tur­ing a Vi­su­al­ly Im­paired Room, Mul­ti­func­tion Rooms, com­put­er sta­tions, and a 12,000-vol­ume li­brary col­lec­tion, with Ba­by, Kids, and Se­nior Li­brary sec­tions.

It will al­so in­clude com­mer­cial space, a 150-seat au­di­to­ri­um, a 210-seat am­phithe­atre, and a plaza.

Ac­cord­ing to the Min­istry of Com­mu­ni­ca­tions, over 30,000 res­i­dents in the La Hor­quet­ta com­mu­ni­ty and en­vi­rons will ben­e­fit from the ed­u­ca­tion­al pro­vi­sions in the new li­brary, with new op­por­tu­ni­ties for em­ploy­ment and small busi­ness ven­tures in the eco­nom­ic space.
