A corporal and five police constables were expected to be interviewed as part of a probe into allegations that they received money from a man they arrested.
Police said a team of officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB), under supervision from the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB), visited the Arouca Police Station on Tuesday to detain the officers.
The officers, who are all assigned to the North-Central Division Task Force, were implicated in allegedly taking money from a man they arrested two weeks ago.
Police said the officers then demanded that the man give them further information on illegal activities in exchange for his freedom.
The allegations, one senior police official said, would amount to misconduct in public office.
Senior police said while the matter was being investigated they hoped that due process was followed to ensure the officers’ rights were not violated.
