The Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert has now been extended and is expected to remain in effect until 10 am on December 20.
Previously, the alert was expected to end at 6:00 PM today.
In a statement, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) said, "Prolonged periods of rainfall over Tobago have resulted in several areas being affected by landslides, fallen trees and localized flooding. Reports also indicate that some rivers in Tobago are nearing critical levels due to debris blockage, increasing the risk of riverine flooding."
The TTMS added that periods of rainfall of varying intensities are expected to continue intermittently overnight with occasional settled conditions, however, the risk of landslides/landslips remains high, particularly along hilly areas of Trinidad's Northern Range and Tobago's Main Ridge.
The release stated to expect the possibility of additional impacts including gusty winds, choppy seas and street flooding in the vicinity of heavy downpours.
The public is urged to monitor weather conditions and assess surroundings before venturing out. In addition, the Met Service cautions against driving or wading through flood waters.
