The Mayor of Arima, Balliram Maharaj, says he was advised by Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, that WASA is experiencing severe water problems with the distribution of water.
In a statement on Wednesday, “There has been a shortfall of 5 million gallons of water per day being produced by the Hollis Reservoir which has gravely impacted the lives of residents in Valencia, Arima, Arouca, La Florissante and other areas. In light of this, WASA has begun accessing water from Guanapo and Aripo to supplement the shortfall at the Hollis Reservoir.”
The Minister advised that WASA is looking to engage more contractors to assist with providing truck-borne water to affected burgesses. They have also commenced the drilling of three (3) wells in Aripo to further offer relief to those affected by the shortfall. Thankfully, there has been an increase in production at the Hollis Reservoir by an additional 1 million gallon due to the recent rainfall in East Trinidad.
