The May­or of Ari­ma, Bal­li­ram Ma­haraj, says he was ad­vised by Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Util­i­ties, Mar­vin Gon­za­les, that WASA is ex­pe­ri­enc­ing se­vere wa­ter prob­lems with the dis­tri­b­u­tion of wa­ter.

In a state­ment on Wednes­day, “There has been a short­fall of 5 mil­lion gal­lons of wa­ter per day be­ing pro­duced by the Hol­lis Reser­voir which has grave­ly im­pact­ed the lives of res­i­dents in Va­len­cia, Ari­ma, Arou­ca, La Floris­sante and oth­er ar­eas. In light of this, WASA has be­gun ac­cess­ing wa­ter from Gua­napo and Aripo to sup­ple­ment the short­fall at the Hol­lis Reser­voir.”

The Min­is­ter ad­vised that WASA is look­ing to en­gage more con­trac­tors to as­sist with pro­vid­ing truck-borne wa­ter to af­fect­ed burgess­es. They have al­so com­menced the drilling of three (3) wells in Aripo to fur­ther of­fer re­lief to those af­fect­ed by the short­fall. Thank­ful­ly, there has been an in­crease in pro­duc­tion at the Hol­lis Reser­voir by an ad­di­tion­al 1 mil­lion gal­lon due to the re­cent rain­fall in East Trinidad.
