The ash­es of de­ceased Sec­re­tary Gen­er­al of the Ma­ha Sab­ha Sat­narayan Ma­haraj will be poured in­to the Ca­roni Riv­er in keep­ing with his wish that he want­ed to go in­to the Gulf of Paria.

Ma­haraj was cre­mat­ed yes­ter­day on the banks of the Ca­roni Riv­er and his son Vi­jay con­firmed to Guardian Me­dia that in keep­ing with his fa­ther’s wish­es, his ash­es will be poured in­to the Ca­roni Riv­er.

Ma­haraj’s fam­i­ly are ex­pect­ed to re­turn to the cre­ma­tion site ear­ly this morn­ing where a prayer cer­e­mo­ny will be con­duct­ed us­ing milk, hon­ey and ghee, as they gath­er the ash­es to pour it in­to the Ca­roni Riv­er.

Be­cause of the sa­cred­ness of the cer­e­mo­ny, the fam­i­ly said it will be pri­vate.

This is one of the last rites to be per­formed for Ma­haraj who died just af­ter mid­night last Fri­day.

Spe­cial pro­vi­sion is made at the Ca­roni Cre­ma­tion site on the north­ern side where steps lead down to the riv­er mak­ing it eas­i­er for fam­i­lies to walk in­to the wa­ter to pour the ash­es of their loved ones.
