The autopsy on the partially decomposed body found on a Scarborough beach approximately two weeks ago, has returned inconclusive results.
Police say the body was too badly decomposed to determine the cause of death or confirm the man’s identity.
The discovery was made around 2:15 pm on July 8, along the shoreline near Castries Street. Officers on patrol spotted the body lying among seaweed and called for support.
The man’s face was unrecognisable, and officers could not determine his ethnicity. The District Medical Officer (DMO) visited the scene and officially pronounced the man dead at 4:43 pm. The body was later taken to the Scarborough General Hospital Mortuary.
Speaking with Guardian Media this morning, Snr Supt Earl Elie said the autopsy was completed last week but yielded no further information.
He confirmed that police have not received any missing person reports in Tobago that may be linked to the case.
“The body was unable to get identified based on the advanced state of decomposition,” he said. “So, inquiries are continuing.”
Police are now hoping someone comes forward to identify the man or provide information that could assist the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Scarborough Police Station or the nearest police post.
Investigations are ongoing.
