A 13-year-old boy scared off a bandit when he screamed for help at his California home early on Saturday morning.
Police said the boy was asleep in the living room of the home around 3.45 am when he was startled by a man who pressed a knife against his throat and ordered him to be quiet.
The boy screamed for help as another relative who was in the house at the time was awakened.
The bandit ran out of the front door and escaped.
On checking the home, the boy and his relative noticed that a cell phone was missing.
Central Division police said the bandit likely entered the front door which was closed but not locked at the time.
PoS resident struck by stray bullet
An east Port-of-Spain man who heard a volley of gunfire was struck with a stray bullet when he peeped outside to see what was happening.
Police said the 53-year-old man was in the bedroom of his Clifton Towers home around 4.10 pm on Saturday when he heard gunshots.
As he looked out his window he felt a burning sensation on his right palm near his little finger and realised he was bleeding.
The man visited the hospital where he was treated.
Fatal police shooting in Claxton Bay
A shootout with police ended in the death of one man and the seizure of a gun in Claxton Bay on Saturday afternoon.
Police said officers of the Central Division were on patrol on Dump Road, around 4 pm when they saw two men standing at the side of the road.
One of the men, police said, had a pistol tucked into the waist of his pants.
On seeing the police vehicle, both men ran into nearby bushes, as the officers chased them.
On entering the bushes, officers reported that they were shot at.
Police returned fire killing one of the men, who was identified as Emmanuel Mohammed.
A Pietro Beretta pistol, believed to have been used by Mohammed was found and seized with five rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
