A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday after officers discovered a loaded firearm in his possession during an early morning raid at a house along Penal Rock Road.
According to police reports, officers of the South Western Division executed the raid around 6:11 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the house unoccupied by its owner. However, during a search of the upper floor, they encountered a teenage boy lying in a hammock.
When questioned, the teen claimed he was the caretaker of ducks on the compound. Officers observed a brown pouch strapped across his shoulder, which allegedly contained a black and silver Sig Sauer pistol along with a magazine loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The boy was arrested, cautioned under the Children’s Judges Rules, and taken to the Oropouche Booking Center.
In a separate exercise in the district, officers searched the home of a 27-year-old man. With assistance from the K-9 Unit, they reportedly discovered a black crate hidden next to a coconut plant. Inside, they found 22 rounds of 9mm ammunition and nine rounds of .40-calibre ammunition wrapped in a black and blue plastic bag.
The man was subsequently detained at the Penal Police Station.
Insp John, Sgt Khadaroo, WPC Perelion-Rowans, and PC Nelson were among the officers involved in the operation.
