A bush fire is be­ing blamed for the de­struc­tion of an au­to garage just off the west­bound lane of the Churchill Roo­sevelt High­way in Mal­oney yes­ter­day.

The own­er of Hi Tech Au­to Garage es­ti­mates dam­ages to be around $.5 mil­lion, as ten cars were com­plete­ly de­stroyed, three cars scorched and the garage’s of­fice de­stroyed.

Ac­cord­ing to Rol­ston De Couteau, friend of the garage own­er, a bush fire start­ed in a va­cant piece of land south of the garage. Due to high winds, the fire quick­ly spread to the garage’s com­pound.

“About 1.20 pm, a bush fire start­ed and is like in a split sec­ond every­thing just hap­pen. We reach across here and tried to out the fire but the wa­ter line burst so no wa­ter. The con­tain­er catch on fire and it just hap­pen so fast. All we could have done was leave the com­pound and call the fire ser­vices,” De Couteau said.

The own­er said he is cur­rent­ly as­sess­ing the sit­u­a­tion and would con­tact his cus­tomers soon.
