Officers of the Region II Homicide Bureau spoke with officials from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) yesterday morning for guidance on different aspects of the case involving Hannah Mathura, according to police sources.
The investigators are expected to meet with the DPP again today.
Hannah’s remains were found buried in the backyard of her family’s Butu Street, Valsayn South, home last Tuesday. The 18-year-old was buried in a shallow grave for the last seven years.
The incident was reported by one of her relatives to police, last Sunday.
The teen’s parents, her 66-year-old father Andrew Mathura and her 62-year-old mother, have since been arrested and have been questioned about the circumstances which led to her death.
An autopsy conducted last week determined that Hannah died from a gunshot to the head.
Sources confirmed that officers of the Region II Homicide Bureau spoke with officials from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) yesterday morning for guidance on different aspects of the case.
The investigators are expected to meet with the DPP again today.
Police sources disclosed that several matters in the case are still being investigated but note that the incident has the “full attention” of detectives assigned to the case.
The source added that while it remains unclear what charges if any could be laid against the mother, who was arrested, it all depended on what information she would have been aware of at the time of Hannah’s death.
The police source noted that the parents could face a charge of improperly disposing of a dead body, among other possible offences.
