Police continued their search yesterday for a 55-year-old man suspected of killing Las Lomas teenager Isabella Teelucksingh, with no one reporting any sightings of him since the incident on Sunday.
Investigators added that no witness officially reported to police that they saw the man firing his gun at the teen and others. However, they are seeking to question him as they continue to gather information about Isabella’s death.
The rural Savary Road community remained shaken by the tragic incident that unfolded around 6.45 pm Sunday.
A report stated that the suspect was driving along Savary Road when he saw a villager at Sameer’s Mini Mart. The suspect stopped his car, got out and proceeded to assault the villager. Later on, villagers stood outside the suspect’s home and engaged in an exchange of words. It was then the suspect reportedly picked up a shotgun and fired in the direction of the crowd, hitting Isabella, 15, in her head while a 20-year-old aunt of Caroni suffered a wound to her pelvis. Even the family’s dog, Spotty, was shot.
Isabella, a student at the Carapichaima East Secondary School, died at a hospital on Monday.
Villagers had a different version of events as they claimed that the teen, her aunt, Spotty and a group of children were walking to a relative’s home when the suspect fired in their direction. They said the incident stemmed from a football match. Homicide investigators said they could not verify the villagers’ accounts but were still gathering witness statements and are yet to determine the motive.
They said that based on the information gathered, it did not seem that the teen was the intended target.
