The Curepe Interchange is expected to be completed by November of this year.
This was announced by NIDCO chairman Hubert George during the sod turning ceremony for the interchange this morning.
The interchange is expected to cost $221 million , a figure that both Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan said was significantly lower than the $513m allocation granted to the project under the previous administration.
The Prime Minister raised questions about the discrepancy during his feature address at the ceremony.
"Where was that 200 or 300 million dollars going?" asked the Prime Minister.
Sinanan also pointed out the $221m figure was also significantly lower than the $346million figure initially allocated by this Government.
He said the money saved on the project should finance the Macoya Interchange, which is one of six more interchanges which are to be constructed.
