The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) is investigating a possible leak of a Mathematics paper in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination that took place yesterday.
CXC did not state where the leak took place but St Vincent media have reported that claims of a leak sent “shockwaves” across that island yesterday.
According to the Searchlight newspaper, the exam was leaked to several students before the exam, with the newspaper adding that it obtained proof of images of CSEC Mathematics Paper 2 pages that were shared on a messaging app the night before the exam and were seen by students from at least two secondary schools.
The Ministry of Education in St Vincent also verified to the newspaper that it had received complaints about the leak.
CXC said the concerns have led to an immediate investigation.
“This matter is of great concern to us, we have commenced our investigations and will make a definitive statement once the investigation is completed. In the meantime, candidates can rest assured that this matter is being treated with the highest urgency,” CXC said in a two-paragraph statement.
Just weeks ago, the Ministry of Education in T&T launched an investigation into the source of leaked pictures of the Secondary Entrance Assessment.
Pictures of the Language Arts component of the exam circulated online during the snack break for pupils before it was supposed to be administered in the final phase of the exam.
The Mathematics and Creative Writing phase of the exam had already been completed by then.
Despite the leak, Minister of Education Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly had assured this did not compromise the integrity of the exam, as they emerged while pupils were in the testing rooms without access to communication devices.
However, Gadsby-Dolly said the T&T Police Service’s Cyber Crime and Social Media Unit was investigating the incident.
