Debe Secondary School dismissed after gas leak detected

Stu­dents of Debe Sec­ondary School had to be dis­missed af­ter a gas leak de­vel­oped near their school.

Per­son­nel from the Na­tion­al Gas com­pa­ny are cur­rent­ly on site check­ing the 16-inch di­am­e­ter pipeline which runs near the school.

CNC3 News con­firmed there was smell when the team vis­it­ed the area near the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies Pe­nal/ Debe cam­pus, sit­u­at­ed near to the Debe Sec­ondary School.

Pres­i­dent of the school's Par­ent- Teacher As­so­ci­a­tion Saman­tha Har­racks­ingh said all stu­dents were safe­ly re­moved and no one was hurt.

She said fire of­fi­cers ar­rived prompt­ly and made checks.

" The odour has been in­ter­mit­tent. The PTA is pleased with the way the mat­ter was han­dled and we are call­ing on the au­thor­i­ties to find the source of the leak as soon as pos­si­ble," Har­racks­ingh said.
