T&T cricketer Mark Deyal has expressed sadness and disappointment after a fake social media post purporting his death began circulating on social media sometime between Monday and Tuesday.
On Tuesday, 30-year-old Deyal who is currently in Dubai taking part in the Abu Dhabi T10 with the New York Strikers, told Guardian Media Ltd. Sports, "I think there seems to be a big mix up but I just want to say thanks for all the messages and concerns but I’m very much alive and well and healthy. I’m currently in Dubai for the Abu Dhabi T10 that’s currently going on. But again thanks to everyone for the genuine messages of concern."
The fake post, which was being shared via WhatsApp claimed, "Red Force player Mark Deyal was murdered yesterday in El Dorado. Seems like the bandits attempted to steal his car."
It was attached to a video highlight reel of the player which he had created and posted to Facebook during this year's CPL.
