De­spite com­plaints from par­ents of stu­dents and pupils of St George's Col­lege, the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion is seek­ing to as­sure the pub­lic that there is no rat in­fes­ta­tion at the school's tem­po­rary Val­sayn com­pound.

The school's Barataria lo­ca­tion is cur­rent­ly un­der ren­o­va­tion and right now class­es are be­ing held at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Trinidad and To­ba­go's (UTT) Val­sayn cam­pus.

Stu­dents sent videos to Guardian Me­dia show­ing rats in the cor­ri­dor of the school. The Par­ent Teach­ers Stu­dents' As­so­ci­a­tion (PT­SA) al­so ex­pressed con­cern and in­di­cat­ed a de­sire to speak with the school's prin­ci­pal.

How­ev­er, in a me­dia re­lease to­day, the Ed­u­ca­tion Min­istry said, "the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion has been ad­vised by the Pub­lic Health De­part­ment of the Tu­na­puna Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion that there is no ev­i­dence of a rat in­fes­ta­tion at the tem­po­rary site for St. George’s Col­lege at the UTT Cam­pus, Val­sayn."

The re­lease went on to say," the Pub­lic Health De­part­ment has in­di­cat­ed that traps and bait have been placed through­out the premis­es.

They will al­so im­ple­ment week­ly vis­its to the site and mon­i­tor the is­sue.
