Despite complaints from parents of students and pupils of St George's College, the Ministry of Education is seeking to assure the public that there is no rat infestation at the school's temporary Valsayn compound.
The school's Barataria location is currently under renovation and right now classes are being held at the University of Trinidad and Tobago's (UTT) Valsayn campus.
Students sent videos to Guardian Media showing rats in the corridor of the school. The Parent Teachers Students' Association (PTSA) also expressed concern and indicated a desire to speak with the school's principal.
However, in a media release today, the Education Ministry said, "the Ministry of Education has been advised by the Public Health Department of the Tunapuna Regional Corporation that there is no evidence of a rat infestation at the temporary site for St. George’s College at the UTT Campus, Valsayn."
The release went on to say," the Public Health Department has indicated that traps and bait have been placed throughout the premises.
They will also implement weekly visits to the site and monitor the issue.
