More than 100 persons turned up to the 2024 East Port of Spain “Panyard Crawl” event on Saturday.
The event was an initiative of the East Port of Spain Development Company Ltd (EPOS) in partnership with Pan Trinbago.
Participants from as far south as San Fernando and from as far east as Sangre Grande came out to participate in the experience as well as several non-local visitors. They were shuttled to four panyards in East Port of Spain: Courts Sound Specialists of Laventille, Pandemonium, BP Renegades and Desperadoes, where they were treated to lively steelpan performances and the genuine panyard experience.
They had the unique opportunity to interact with talented musicians, witness the bands rehearse, get a taste of their Panorama selections, and delve into the historical and cultural significance of each panyard.
The initiative was also an opportunity to support the steelpan fraternity, as participants were able to purchase delicious food, refreshing drinks and memorable souvenirs at each panyard.
Also in attendance were Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and MP for Laventille East/Morvant Honourable Adrian Leonce; EPOS Managing Director Dr Deborah Thomas-Austin and Pan Trinbago President Beverley Ramsey-Moore.
Thomas-Austin hailed the initiative as one that allowed persons to safely enjoy a panyard experience in East Port of Spain, the cultural capital of Trinidad and Tobago and the birthplace of the steelpan, our national instrument. She thanked all who attended the event and invited them to return in 2025!
