The family of missing prison officer Alexander Johnson is pleading with the public for help in locating him.
Johnson, a father of four, left his Barrackpore home on Wednesday morning without saying where he was going and failed to report to work later that day.
He is assigned to the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre in Arima.
Johnson, 35, was seen by a relative standing on the road near his home in Barrackpore around 8.30 am, wearing a brown jersey and black short pants. He had left his wallet, wedding ring, cell phone and car at home.
In an interview at their house yesterday, his wife Affian said it was strange that he did not take his wallet or cellphone and his disappearance had her confused and stressed.
“That question hard because I wouldn’t say he get kidnap because he would never leave these things with me, like he know what he was doing. I just praying to God that he come back home,” she lamented.
Affian said her husband loves their children, ages 14, eight, six, and two, and has always provided for them. While she knew his work was stressful, the wife said Johnson never spoke about any issues.
Meanwhile, the missing officer’s mother, Michelle, could not hold back her tears. She said Johnson is the eldest of her three children and a quiet and responsible man.
“I am so displeased about the situation right now. I am very hurt, very sad because this never happen,” the mother said.
She said Johnson was supposed to have reported for duty that evening but sometime after 9 pm, his colleague told them he did not turn up for work.
“It shocking me because usually he will go to work, he will come back home that is how he will operate. He don’t lime, he don’t smoke. He don’t fete. He’s a church person,” said the mother.
However, his sister Shanada recalled that on Tuesday he spoke with their other sister in Tobago and something was awry. The police visited Johnson’s home on Wednesday and are in contact with the family.
