Family critical after cutlass attack

Three mem­bers of a Pa­lo Seco fam­i­ly are fight­ing for their lives af­ter be­ing hacked by man on Sun­day.

Leslie Forester, 57, his wife Jenifer Alexan­der, 55 and daugh­ter Lisann Forester, 30, were at­tacked at their Pa­lo Seco home around noon by a 40-year-old man.

Re­ports stat­ed that around 7.30 am, res­i­dents near the Pa­lo Seco Velo­drome heard screams at the vic­tims’ home and found Alexan­der in her yard, bleed­ing from wounds to her head and hand.

Res­i­dents con­tact­ed the po­lice and a team led by act­ing In­sp Khan and Sgt Smith re­spond­ed.

The sus­pect was seen in­side the house with a blood­ied cut­lass and as he saw the po­lice, he ran out of the house and at­tempt­ed to hide at a neigh­bour­ing prop­er­ty. How­ev­er, he was chased by po­lice and res­i­dents.

Of­fi­cers were in­jured try­ing to ar­rest the sus­pect but he was even­tu­al­ly sub­dued and tak­en to the San­ta Flo­ra Po­lice Sta­tion.

A group of res­i­dents had gone to the house where they found Forester bleed­ing from wounds to his left hand which was al­most sev­ered at the wrist. Lisann’s in­juries were more se­ri­ous as she was chopped on her head and neck. Res­i­dents took the three in­jured peo­ple to the Siparia Dis­trict Health Fa­cil­i­ty where they were treat­ed and trans­ferred to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. They re­mained in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion on Sun­day. The of­fi­cers were al­so treat­ed at the health fa­cil­i­ty.
