Current Member of Parliament for Laventille East/ Morvant, Adrian Leonce MP, has revealed that personal issues affecting him and his family caused his withdrawal from yesterday's screening of candidates for the People’s National Movement (PNM).
Guardian Media understands from sources inside the PNM that prior to this development, the incumbent Laventille East-Morvant MP was an unopposed candidate, and also had been selected to return.
However, Leonce has since confirmed his withdrawal from his candidacy, which occurred just before the screening session.
Below is the full Media Statement issued by MP Leonce on the matter.
“I love my people. The constituency of Laventille East Morvant is the place that I was born and grew. I believe that God placed in my heart a purpose and passion to serve. It was brought to my attention yesterday, some very serious personal issues that affects my family and myself. It breaks my heart to not be able to offer my full service to my people as I have been committed to the development and growth of people. I will commit to my service until the end of the term but have to address my personal issues. I hope that in the future as these issues are resolved that I can return to serve the people. I love my people, and I will continue, in whatever capacity I can, to serve. SERVICE IS THE GREATEST EXPRESSION OF LOVE.”
