The Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service has been plunged mourning following the death of two firefighters, one of whom died from COVID-19.
Chief Fire Officer Marlon Smith confirmed to Guardian Media yesterday that firefighter Rajesh Bissoon died on Monday after battling COVID-19.
Bissoon’s death came on the same day that firefighter Jamiyla Muhammad passed away.
CFO Smith said Muhammed died from medical complications.
Muhammad served as a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Fire Service’s Association representing the Morvant Fire Station for several years, according to the association’s president Leo Ramkissoon.
“In this regard, I would like to send out our deepest condolences on behalf of the association to the families, friends, comrades and loved ones of both officers and join them in sorrow at this time,” Ramkissoon said.
The T&T Fire Service (TTFS), in a release, extended its deepest and sincerest condolences to the families, colleagues and friends on the passing of both officers.
Bissoon was last assigned to the Chaguaramas Fire Station, while Muhammad was last assigned to the Morvant Fire Station.
“We pray that God’s grace brings you all peace and comfort at this time of bereavement,” the TTFS stated.
