The TT Fire Service (TTFS) has once again warned persons to be extremely careful when handling fireworks.
This call was made by Acting Chief Fire Officer for the Central Division Ramdeo Boodoo on Friday when the TTFS closed a week of fire prevention activities at the Centre City Mall, Chaguanas. Boodoo said dealers of fireworks have a responsibility to inform consumers about the proper handling and related safety instructions when it comes to the use of fireworks.
With Divali around the corner, Boodoo said he was extremely concerned that careless individuals may show up at the hospital with injuries because they chose to handle these explosive devices with their bare hands and ignore safety procedures.
He said only the TTFS can give clearance for the use of commercial fireworks.
Boodoo said adult supervision is needed at all times and under no circumstance should children be allowed to handle fireworks.
He said it was important not to overload circuits and ensure safety devices like smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are installed in houses.
The acting Chief Fire Officer for the Central Division said these are small investments that would go a long way in protecting one’s property.(SB)
